The experience
Perched at 3,800m on the shore of shimmering Lake Titicaca, Puno is Peru’s folklore capital — a lively altiplano city of brass bands and dazzling festivals, and the gateway to the lake’s floating reed islands.
By day, set out across the silver water to the Uros floating islands and the knitters of Taquile; by night, Puno bursts into music and dance, throwing some of the most spectacular festivals in all the Andes.
Wrapped in thin, bright altiplano air, the city is also where the great southern routes meet — the scenic railways from Arequipa and Cusco both end here, on the roof of Peru.
