Gocta Falls
Cocachimba village
Drive to the village of Cocachimba, where the trail to the falls begins.
Trek to the falls
Hike about three hours through narrow paths rich in wildlife to the foot of mighty Gocta, one of the tallest waterfalls on earth.
Time at the cascade
Pause to photograph and even swim beneath the thundering water, then walk back to Cocachimba and on to Chachapoyas.

The fortress of Kuélap
Macro ruins
Set out toward Kuélap, stopping at the archaeological site of Macro perched on a steep hillside.
Cable car to Kuélap
Ride the scenic cable car from Nuevo Tingo up to Malcapampa, then climb the final stretch to the great walled citadel.
The walled city
Spend around three hours exploring Kuélap, the massive stone fortress of the Chachapoyas high above the valley, before returning to your hotel.

Luya & Lamud
Travel through the province of Luya toward Lamud, passing the villages of Cocheran and Cruz Pata.
Karajía sarcophagi
A short walk brings you to Karajía, where tall clay sarcophagi of the Chachapoyas gaze out from a cliff face — a burial style found nowhere else on earth. Return to the city.

Overland to Cajamarca
Scenic transfer
A private drive across the beautiful northern sierra, with sweeping mountain landscapes, arriving in colonial Cajamarca by late afternoon.

Cajamarca city & Otuzco
Historic centre
Walk the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral, San Francisco and the Belén complex, then the Ransom Room linked to the Inca Atahualpa.
Santa Apolonia hill
Climb to the Santa Apolonia viewpoint for panoramic views and the carved 'Inca's Seat'.
Otuzco necropolis
In the afternoon, visit the pre-Inca Otuzco necropolis, with galleries carved into volcanic rock, plus the hanging bridge and Tres Molinos hacienda.

Kuntur Wasi & on to Chiclayo
Kuntur Wasi temple
Visit the ceremonial centre of Kuntur Wasi, with stepped platforms and stone sculptures in the style of Chavín de Huántar.
Temple museum
See its museum, home to the oldest worked gold in the Americas, uncovered by the Japanese mission.
On to Chiclayo
Continue down to the coastal city of Chiclayo and transfer to your hotel.

Huaca Rajada
Visit the great adobe platform of Huaca Rajada, where the famed Lord of Sipán was discovered, surrounded by gold and precious stones.
Royal Tombs museum
Step inside the splendid Royal Tombs of Sipán museum to take in the dazzling wealth of the Moche civilisation, then return to Chiclayo.

Bus to Trujillo
Travel south along the coast to Trujillo and transfer to your hotel.
Chan Chan
In the afternoon, explore the Nik-An palace of Chan Chan, the vast adobe capital of the Chimú, with its friezes, plazas and reservoirs.
Huanchaco
Finish at the fishing cove of Huanchaco, where reed 'caballitos de totora' still ride the surf as they have for centuries.

Moche temples & departure
Huacas of the Sun & Moon
Tour the Moche valley temples — the colossal Huaca del Sol and the beautifully painted Huaca de la Luna — and the on-site museum.
Flight to Lima
