Day 1

Welcome to Lima

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! Touch down in the capital and transfer to your hotel to settle in.

Day 2

Lima city tour & Museo Larco

Miraflores & San Isidro

Set out along the Pacific cliffs, taking in Lima's smart seaside districts and the wide ocean views.

Huaca Pucllana

Pause at the great pre-Inca adobe pyramid, a ceremonial temple that has survived the city growing up around it.

Colonial old town

Explore the UNESCO historic centre — the Plaza Mayor, Government Palace and Cathedral — then the Santo Domingo convent that guards the relics of Peru's saints.

Museo Larco

Finish at the Larco Museum and its dazzling pre-Columbian ceramics, including the famous erotic gallery, before returning to Larcomar or your hotel.

Day 3

Lima to Puno via Sillustani

Flight to Juliaca

Transfer to the airport and fly high onto the altiplano, landing at Juliaca about an hour from Puno.

Sillustani towers

On the road to Puno, stop at the Sillustani burial towers standing above the still waters of Lake Umayo.

Arrival in Puno

Reach Puno (3,800 m) with the rest of the day to rest and acclimatise gently to the altitude.

Day 4

Lake Titicaca — Taquile & Uros

Boat to Taquile Island

Sail out across the deep blue lake to Taquile, where islanders keep alive their ancestral weaving traditions.

Lunch at Luquina Chico

Stop at Luquina Chico for a buffet lunch with views over the water.

Floating Uros islands

On the way back, step onto the famous reed islands of the Uros, hand-built from totora that floats on the lake.

Day 5

Puno to Cusco by the high road

Pukara & La Raya

Travel north by tourist bus, visiting the ceremonial terraces of Pukara and the high pass of La Raya, surrounded by snow peaks.

Lunch in Sicuani

Pause in Sicuani for lunch and a rest at the midpoint of the journey.

Raqchi temple

Explore Raqchi, the grand Inca temple of Wiracocha built in stone and adobe.

Andahuaylillas chapel

Visit the gilded baroque church of Andahuaylillas, the 'Sistine Chapel of the Americas', before arriving in Cusco (3,400 m).

Day 6

Imperial Cusco & Inca ruins

San Cristóbal & San Blas

Walk the picturesque hillside quarters — the San Cristóbal viewpoint, the Siete Borreguitos lane, the Sapantiana aqueduct and the artisan Plaza San Blas.

Old town & Twelve-Angled Stone

Descend past the famous Twelve-Angled Stone to the monumental Plaza de Armas.

Cathedral & Qorikancha

In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.

Ruins above the city

Explore the nearby sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Day 7

Machu Picchu day trip

Train to Machu Picchu

Transfer to Poroy station for the Expedition train winding down into the cloud forest toward the citadel.

Guided tour of the citadel

Ride the bus up the switchbacks for a guided tour of the lost city — its religious, civil and military quarters — one of the seven wonders of the world.

Lunch & return

Enjoy an included lunch in Aguas Calientes, then take the afternoon train back and transfer to your Cusco hotel.

Day 8

Cusco to Iquitos

Free morning in Cusco

A free morning to wander the cobbled streets or shop for crafts at your own pace.

Flight to Iquitos

In the afternoon, fly north to Iquitos (106 m), gateway to the northern Amazon, arriving in the evening.

Day 9

Into Pacaya Samiria

Journey to Nauta

Transfer to Nauta, visiting San Joaquín de Omaguas and the Samuel Fritz interpretation centre on the way.

River to the ecolodge

Navigate downriver to the ecolodge, spotting flora and fauna along the way and settling into the rainforest.

Ethnobotanical trail

Walk the Ethnobotanical Ecotrail with an interactive guide and take part in a sustainable activity.

Myths & legends by night

After dark, learn the myths and legends of the Amazon along the Mythological Ecotrail before overnight at the lodge.

Day 10

Pacaya Samiria reserve & pink dolphins

Medicinal forest walk

Hike the lodge's private reserve to learn about its biodiversity, medicinal plants and animals along the Wildlife Ecotrail.

Pink dolphins

Enter the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve to seek pink and grey river dolphins gliding through the mirror-still channels.

Traditional fishing

Try your hand at artisanal fishing and drift among the reflecting waters teeming with life.

Night excursion

Head out after dark on a night walk through the forest before returning to the lodge.

Day 11

Cocha Shiriyacu & back to Lima

Boat on the Marañón

Cruise the Marañón river to Cocha Shiriyacu, visiting the San Jorge community and its women artisans working with natural fibre and gourd.

Return & flight to Lima

Return to the lodge, then travel by boat to Nauta and on to Iquitos to fly back to Lima and transfer to your hotel.

Transfer to the airport

At leisure until your transfer to the airport for your international flight home.
