Callejón de Huaylas & Llanganuco
Andean villages
Set out along the Callejón de Huaylas, passing pretty villages like Carhuaz, where you can taste fresh milk-and-fruit ice creams.
Yungay memorial
Stop at the moving Campo Santo of Yungay, the old town buried by the 1970 earthquake and landslide, marked now by the white Christ.
Llanganuco lakes
Enter Huascarán National Park to reach the turquoise Chinancocha lake, ringed by queñual woods beneath the Cordillera Blanca and towering Huascarán (6,768 m).

Chavín de Huántar
Crossing to Conchucos
Drive past the 'map of Peru' rock and through the Cahuish tunnel (4,550 m) into the Conchucos valley.
Chavín temple
Explore the ancient temple of Chavín de Huántar (3,180 m) — its carved tenon heads, the Lanzón monolith, underground galleries and ceremonial plazas.
Chavín museum
Visit the modern Chavín National Museum before returning to Huaraz.
