Day 1

Welcome to Peru

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! Touch down in the capital and transfer to your hotel to rest and settle in.

Day 2

Lima city tour & overnight bus to Huaraz

Miraflores & San Isidro

Set out along the Pacific cliffs through Lima's smart seaside districts, with wide ocean views.

Huaca Pucllana

Pause at the great pre-Inca adobe pyramid that has survived the city growing up around it.

Colonial old town

Explore the UNESCO historic centre — the Plaza Mayor, Government Palace and Cathedral — and the Santo Domingo convent.

Museo Larco

Visit the Larco Museum's dazzling pre-Columbian ceramics, then board the overnight coach to Huaraz.

Day 3

Callejón de Huaylas & Llanganuco

Arrival in Huaraz

Arrive in the morning to Huaraz (3,300 m), the gateway to the Cordillera Blanca.

Andean villages

Wind through the Callejón de Huaylas past pretty villages — Carhuaz for fresh fruit-and-milk ice cream, and Yungay with its moving memorial to the 1970 disaster.

Laguna Llanganuco

Enter Huascarán National Park to reach the turquoise Chinancocha lake, framed by queñua forest beneath Peru's highest peak, Huascarán (6,768 m).

Day 4

Chavín de Huántar

Over the Cahuish tunnel

Climb past the 'map of Peru' rock formation and through the Cahuish tunnel (4,550 m) into the Conchucos valley.

Chavín de Huántar temple

Explore the 3,000-year-old temple complex — the carved tenon heads, the Lanzón monolith, underground galleries, ceremonial plazas and stairways.

Chavín museum

Visit the modern national museum before returning to Huaraz.

Day 5

Fly to Cusco & Inca ruins

Flight to Cusco

Transfer to the airport and fly via Lima to Cusco (3,399 m); transfer to your hotel to take the altitude gently.

Cathedral & Qorikancha

In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha — the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.

Ruins above the city

Explore the nearby Inca sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Day 6

Machu Picchu

Train to Machu Picchu

Take the early Expedition train from Poroy through the Sacred Valley toward the cloud-forest citadel.

Guided tour of the citadel

Ride the bus up the switchbacks for a guided tour of the lost city's religious, civil and military quarters — one of the seven wonders of the world.

Lunch & return

Enjoy an included lunch in Aguas Calientes, then take the train back to Ollantaytambo and transfer to your Cusco hotel.

Departure

Transfer to the airport

At leisure until your transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima.
