Day 1

Welcome to Lima

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! Touch down in the capital and transfer to your hotel to rest and settle in.

Day 2

Lima city tour & Larco Museum

Miraflores & San Isidro

Set out along the Pacific cliffs, taking in Lima's smart seaside districts with their wide ocean views.

Huaca Pucllana

Pause at the great pre-Inca adobe pyramid, a ceremonial temple that has survived the city growing up around it.

Colonial old town

Explore the UNESCO historic centre — Plaza de Armas, Government Palace and Cathedral — and the Santo Domingo convent that guards the relics of Peru's saints.

Museo Larco

Finish at the Larco Museum and its dazzling pre-Columbian ceramics, including the famous erotic gallery, before returning to Larcomar or your hotel.

Day 3

Fly to Cusco — the imperial city

Arrival in Cusco

Fly up to Cusco (3,399 m) and transfer to your hotel, taking the altitude gently.

San Cristóbal & San Blas

Climb to the San Cristóbal viewpoint, then wander San Blas — the Siete Borreguitos lane, the Sapantiana aqueduct and the famous Twelve-Angled Stone down to the Plaza de Armas.

Cathedral & Qorikancha

In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.

Ruins above the city

Explore the nearby Inca sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay before returning to your hotel.

Day 4

Písac & the Sacred Valley

Písac ruins & artisans

Explore the hilltop ruins of Písac and its artisan community, where families live by their crafts and traditions in workshop after workshop.

Calca, Yucay & Urubamba

Pass the charming valley villages of Calca and Yucay, with a buffet lunch at a local restaurant in Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo fortress

Climb the great terraced fortress of Ollantaytambo, with spectacular views down the valley, then settle into your Sacred Valley hotel.

Day 5

Patacancha weavers & train to Machu Picchu

Welcome at Patacancha

Drive up to the community of Patacancha, greeted with music, flower garlands and an introduction to local life.

The art of weaving

Dress in traditional Andean clothing and join a hands-on weaving demonstration over a cup of medicinal herb tea.

Make your own bracelet

Craft a woven bracelet guided by the village weavers and browse their small handicraft exhibition before a farewell ceremony.

Night train to Machu Picchu

Transfer to Ollantaytambo for the evening train to Aguas Calientes; dinner included on arrival.

Day 6

Machu Picchu & back to the valley

Guided tour of the citadel

Ride the bus up the switchbacks for a guided tour of the lost city — its religious, civil and military quarters — one of the seven wonders of the world.

Lunch in Aguas Calientes

Return to Aguas Calientes for an included lunch before the journey back.

Train to Ollantaytambo

Take the afternoon train down to Ollantaytambo and transfer to your hotel to rest.

Day 7

Scenic route to Puno

Andahuaylillas chapel

Board the tourist bus and stop at the Andahuaylillas church, the gold-leaf 'Sistine Chapel of the Americas'.

Raqchi temple

Explore Raqchi, the great temple to Wiracocha — a masterwork of Inca stone and adobe.

La Raya & Sicuani

Cross La Raya, the highest point of the route framed by snow peaks, then lunch and a rest in Sicuani.

Pukara & arrival in Puno

Visit the Pukara ceremonial centre with its terraced ruins before reaching Puno (3,800 m) by evening.

Day 8

Titicaca islands & Luquina homestay

The floating Uros islands

Sail out from Puno to the famous Uros islands, hand-built from totora reeds.

Taquile island

Continue to Taquile, a community that keeps its ancestral customs and reads stories in the icons of its weaving, with grand views over the lake and a set lunch.

Aymara homestay at Luquina

Cross to the Chucuito peninsula to stay with an Aymara family in Luquina Chico — sharing dinner, conversation and a true cultural exchange.

Day 9

Life in Luquina

Breakfast with your hosts

Share a local breakfast with the family that welcomed you the night before.

Lakeside activities

Walk the shore, sail a traditional reed boat hired from the villagers, or paddle out by kayak (on request).

Return to Puno

Enjoy a fisherman's-house lunch before returning by boat to Puno and transferring to your hotel.

Day 10

On to the Amazon at Iquitos

Free morning in Puno

A relaxed morning by the lake at your own pace.

Flight to Iquitos

Transfer to the airport and fly (via Lima) to Iquitos (106 m), gateway to the northern Amazon, arriving at night.

Day 11

Into Pacaya Samiria

Down to Nauta

Drive to Nauta, visiting San Joaquín de Omaguas and the Samuel Fritz interpretation centre along the way.

River to the ecolodge

Navigate downriver to your jungle ecolodge, spotting flora and fauna as you go.

Ethnobotanical ecotrail

Take part in a sustainable activity and walk the ethnobotanical trail to learn the plants of the rainforest.

Myths & legends by night

After dark, hear the myths and legends of the Amazon on the mythological ecotrail before overnighting at the lodge.

Day 12

Wildlife of the reserve

Private reserve walk

Hike the lodge's private reserve to discover its biodiversity, medicinal plants and animals along the fauna trail.

Pink dolphins

Enter the Pacaya Samiria national reserve to search for pink and grey river dolphins gliding through mirror-still channels.

Traditional fishing

Try your hand at artisanal fishing among the reflecting waters and flooded forest.

Night excursion

Head out after dark on a guided night walk through the rainforest before returning to the lodge.

Day 13

River communities & fly to Lima

Cocha Shiriyacu by boat

Cruise the Marañón river to Cocha Shiriyacu, visiting the San Jorge community and its women's artisan centre working with natural fibre and gourd.

Back to Nauta & Iquitos

Return to the lodge, then travel by boat to Nauta and on to Iquitos for your flight.

Arrival in Lima

Fly to Lima and transfer to your hotel for the night.
