Day 1

Welcome to Lima

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! Touch down in the capital and transfer to your hotel to settle in.

Day 2

Lima city tour & Museo Larco

Miraflores & San Isidro

Set out along the Pacific cliffs through Lima’s smart, leafy seaside districts, with wide views of the ocean.

Huaca Pucllana

Pause at the great pre-Inca adobe pyramid, a ceremonial temple that has survived the city rising up all around it.

Colonial old town

Explore the UNESCO historic centre — the Plaza Mayor, Government Palace and Cathedral — and the Santo Domingo convent that guards the relics of Peru’s saints.

Museo Larco

Finish at the Larco Museum and its dazzling collection of pre-Columbian ceramics, including the famous erotic gallery, then return to Larcomar or your hotel.

Day 3

Fly to Arequipa & Santa Catalina

Flight to Arequipa

Transfer to the airport and fly south to the White City (2,400 m); the rest of the morning is free to rest and acclimatise.

Colonial centre

In the afternoon, stroll the Plaza de Armas, Municipal Palace, Cathedral and Jesuit Compañía church, all built from gleaming white sillar stone.

Santa Catalina Monastery

Wander the painted lanes of Santa Catalina, a city-within-a-city and one of Peru’s most beautiful religious monuments.

Yanahuara & viewpoints

Visit colonial Yanahuara with its Andalusian-style arches and viewpoint, the farming terraces of Carmen Alto and leafy Selva Alegre.

Day 4

Over the altiplano to Colca

Vicuña reserve

Climb onto the high plateau through Yura and the Aguada Blanca reserve, home to wild vicuñas grazing the puna.

Tocra wetlands & volcano viewpoint

Cross the Tocra wetlands alive with migratory birds and stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes for sweeping highland views.

Chivay village

Arrive in Chivay for lunch and a rest, then explore the village and its lively market.

Day 5

Cruz del Cóndor & on to Puno

Cruz del Cóndor

An early start to the famous lookout, where giant condors ride the thermals above the depths of the Colca Canyon.

Maca & Yanque

On the return, visit the colonial villages of Maca and Yanque and the Antahuilque viewpoint.

Across the high country to Puno

Drive on to Puno over the stone-forest highlands, crossing Crucero Alto (4,538 m) and the lakes of Lagunillas — about six hours to Lake Titicaca.

Day 6

Lake Titicaca — Taquile & Uros

Sail to Taquile

Board a traditional boat across the deep blue of Lake Titicaca to Taquile, an island community that keeps its ancestral customs alive.

Lunch at Luquina Chico

Stop at the lakeside hamlet of Luquina Chico for a buffet lunch with beautiful views over the water.

Uros floating islands

In the afternoon, visit the famous Uros floating reed islands before returning to Puno.

Day 7

Scenic route to Cusco

Pukara & La Raya

Travel by tourist coach toward Cusco, visiting the Pukara ceremonial terraces and crossing La Raya pass amid snow peaks and native wildlife.

Lunch in Sicuani

Pause in Sicuani for lunch and a rest along the route.

Raqchi

Explore Raqchi, the great temple of the god Wiracocha, a masterwork of Inca stone and adobe.

Andahuaylillas chapel

Visit the Andahuaylillas church, the gilded ‘Sistine Chapel of the Americas’, before arriving in Cusco.

Day 8

Cusco city & Inca ruins

San Cristóbal & San Blas

Walk the picturesque San Cristóbal and San Blas quarters — the Siete Borreguitos lane, the colonial Sapantiana aqueduct, and down past the Twelve-Angled Stone to the Plaza de Armas.

Cathedral & Qorikancha

In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.

Ruins above the city

Explore the nearby Inca sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q’enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay before returning to your hotel.

Day 9

Rainbow Mountain

Drive to Vinicunca

A pre-dawn departure to the trailhead in the Valle Sur, beneath the sacred peak of Ausangate.

Hike to the summit

Climb about 90 minutes to the 5,000 m pass for breathtaking views of the striped Rainbow Mountain, with free time for photos.

Lunch & return

Descend the same trail, lunch in Pitumarca, and return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Day 10

Machu Picchu day trip

Train to Machu Picchu

Transfer to Poroy station for the Expedition train through the Sacred Valley to the foot of Machu Picchu.

Guided tour of the citadel

Ride the bus up the switchbacks for a guided tour of the lost city — its religious, civil and military quarters — one of the seven wonders of the world.

Lunch & return

Return to Aguas Calientes for an included lunch, then take the afternoon train back to Poroy and your Cusco hotel.

Day 11

Humantay Lake

Drive to Soraypampa

An early departure through Limatambo and Mollepata to the trailhead at Soraypampa.

Hike to the turquoise lake

Climb about two hours to the glacial Humantay Lake (4,200 m), with stunning views of the Apu Humantay glacier above.

Lunch & return

Descend to Soraypampa, lunch in Mollepata, and return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Day 12

Departure

Transfer to the airport

At leisure until your transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima and onward international connection.
