Lima to Arequipa & Santa Catalina
Flight to Arequipa
Transfer to the airport and fly south to the white city of Arequipa (2,400 m), framed by three volcanoes.
Colonial centre
Stroll the Plaza de Armas, the Municipal Palace, the Cathedral and the Jesuit churches, all carved from gleaming white sillar stone.
Santa Catalina Monastery
Wander the painted lanes of Santa Catalina, a city within a city and one of Peru's most striking religious monuments.
Yanahuara & Carmen Alto
Visit the Andalusian-style church and viewpoint of Yanahuara, then the farming terraces of Carmen Alto and the leafy district of Selva Alegre.

Arequipa to the Colca Valley
Across the altiplano
Leave Arequipa through the village of Yura and the Aguada Blanca vicuña reserve, crossing the wetlands of Tocra alive with migratory birds.
Viewpoint of the Volcanoes
Stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes for sweeping high-country views before descending toward the canyon.
Chivay village & market
Arrive in Chivay (3,600 m) for lunch and a gentle rest, then explore the village and its lively market.

Cruz del Cóndor
Set out early to the Cross of the Condor to watch giant condors ride the thermals above the depths of the Colca canyon.
Maca & Yanque villages

Altiplano crossing
Drive on toward Puno through stone-forest landscapes, over Crucero Alto (4,538 m) and the lovely Lagunillas wetlands.
Arrival in Puno

Andahuaylillas chapel

Option 1 — Rainbow Mountain
An early start for Vinicunca: a 90-minute climb to the 5,000 m pass for unforgettable views of the striped Mountain of Colours and Apu Ausangate, with lunch in Pitumarca.

Drive to Soraypampa, then hike two hours up to the turquoise Humantay Lake (4,200 m) beneath its glacier, with lunch in Mollepata on the way back.
