Day 1

Welcome to Lima

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! Touch down in the capital and transfer to your hotel to settle in.

Day 2

Lima city tour & Museo Larco

Miraflores & San Isidro

Begin along the Pacific cliffs, taking in Lima's smart seaside districts and the wide ocean views.

Huaca Pucllana

Pause at the pre-Inca adobe pyramid, a ceremonial temple that has survived the city growing up around it.

Colonial old town

Explore the UNESCO historic centre — Plaza Mayor, Government Palace and Cathedral — and the Santo Domingo convent that guards the relics of Peru's saints.

Museo Larco

Finish at the Larco Museum and its dazzling pre-Columbian ceramics, including the famous erotic gallery, then return to Larcomar or your hotel.

Day 3

Fly to Arequipa & Santa Catalina

On to the White City

Fly south to Arequipa, built from pale volcanic sillar stone, and transfer to your hotel.

Historic centre

Stroll the Plaza de Armas, Municipal Palace, Cathedral and the Jesuit church of La Compañía.

Santa Catalina Monastery

Step inside one of Peru's most extraordinary religious monuments — a walled city of colour-washed lanes within the city.

Yanahuara & viewpoints

Visit the Andalusian-style Yanahuara district and its lookout, the farming terraces of Carmen Alto and the leafy Selva Alegre quarter.

Day 4

Across the altiplano to Colca

Vicuña reserve

Set out past the village of Yura and the Aguada Blanca reserve, home to wild vicuñas grazing the high plains.

Tocra wetlands & Volcanoes lookout

Cross the Tocra wetlands alive with migratory birds, and stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes among the high peaks.

Chivay village & market

Arrive in Chivay for lunch and a rest, then explore its lively town and traditional market.

Day 5

Cruz del Cóndor & on to Puno

Cruz del Cóndor

An early start to the famous lookout, where the canyon plunges away and condors ride the morning thermals overhead.

Maca & Yanque

On the way back, visit the colonial villages of Maca and Yanque and the Antahuilque viewpoint.

Road to Puno

A scenic six-hour drive over Crucero Alto (4,538 m), past stone-forest formations and the Lagunillas wetlands to Puno on Lake Titicaca.

Day 6

Lake Titicaca — Taquile & Uros

Taquile Island

Cruise by traditional boat across the deep blue lake to Taquile, famed for its UNESCO-listed weaving and ancient communal traditions.

Lunch at Luquina Chico

Stop at the lakeside community of Luquina Chico for a buffet lunch with sweeping views.

Uros floating islands

On the way back, step onto the famous floating reed islands of the Uros, hand-built from totora reeds.

Day 7

Scenic route to Cusco

La Raya pass

Travel by tourist bus over the high La Raya pass, with snow-capped peaks and grazing alpacas, stopping at the Pukara ceremonial terraces.

Lunch in Sicuani & Raqchi

After lunch in Sicuani, visit Raqchi, the great Inca temple of Wiracocha built in stone and adobe.

Andahuaylillas chapel

Marvel at the gilded murals of the Andahuaylillas church, the 'Sistine Chapel of the Americas', before arriving in Cusco.

Day 8

Cusco city & Inca ruins

San Cristóbal & San Blas

Walk the picturesque San Cristóbal and San Blas quarters — the Siete Borreguitos lane, the Sapantiana aqueduct and the famous Twelve-Angled Stone.

Cathedral & Qorikancha

In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.

Ruins above the city

Explore the nearby sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Day 9

Trek of your choice

Option 1 — Rainbow Mountain

An early drive to Vinicunca for a 90-minute climb to the 5,000 m pass, with astonishing views of the striped Mountain of Colours and the Ausangate glacier.

Option 2 — Humantay Lake

Or drive to Soraypampa for a two-hour hike to the turquoise Humantay Lake (4,200 m) beneath the Apu Humantay glacier.

Return to Cusco

After lunch in the valley, return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Day 10

Maras & Moray

Maras salt pans

Visit the cascading salt terraces of Maras, worked by hand since Inca and colonial times.

Moray terraces

Stand inside the concentric circular terraces of Moray, an Inca agricultural laboratory of micro-climates, then return to Cusco.

Day 11

The Sacred Valley

Písac ruins & market

Discover the hilltop ruins of Písac and browse its colourful artisan market below.

Calca, Yucay & Urubamba

Pass the charming villages of Calca and Yucay, with a buffet lunch in Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo fortress

Climb the great terraced fortress of Ollantaytambo, with spectacular views down the valley.

Day 12

Machu Picchu

Train to Machu Picchu

Board the Expedition train at Ollanta and wind down the valley to Aguas Calientes, then ride the bus up to the citadel.

Guided tour of the citadel

Explore the lost city's religious, civil and military quarters with your guide — one of the seven wonders of the world.

Return to Cusco

After an included lunch, take the train back to Cusco and transfer to your hotel.

Day 13

Cusco to the Amazon

Free morning in Cusco

Enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure in the imperial city.

Fly to Iquitos

In the afternoon, fly to Iquitos (via Lima), gateway to the northern Amazon, arriving by night.

Day 14

Into the rainforest

Boat to the lodge

Travel upriver some 140 km into the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo reserve to your jungle lodge, deep among the trees.

Jungle walk

Set out on foot to discover the abundant flora and fauna, watching for the tiny pygmy marmoset, the world's smallest monkey.

Night excursion

After dinner, glide out by boat to spot caimans, night birds and other nocturnal creatures by torchlight.

Day 15

Pink dolphins & piranhas

Amazon river cruise

Cruise the great river to look for pink and grey dolphins and the giant Victoria Regia water lilies.

Piranha fishing

Try your hand at piranha fishing in the warm backwaters of the rainforest.

Night walk

After dinner, head out on a guided night walk in search of tarantulas and tree frogs.

Day 16

Lagoon birding & departure

Morning on the lagoon

A final boat trip to a local lagoon to spot birds and monkeys and log your sightings on the biodiversity card with your guide.

Return to Lima

After lunch, transfer to Iquitos for your flight to Lima and onward international connection.
