Huaca Pucllana
Pause at the great pre-Inca adobe pyramid, a ceremonial temple that has survived the city growing up around it.
Colonial old town
Explore the UNESCO historic centre — Plaza de Armas, Government Palace and Cathedral — and the Santo Domingo convent that guards the relics of Peru's saints.
Museo Larco
Finish at the Larco Museum and its dazzling pre-Columbian ceramics, including the famous erotic gallery, before returning to Larcomar or your hotel.

Fly to Arequipa — the white city
On to Arequipa
Fly south to Arequipa (2,400 m) with a free morning to rest and acclimatise gently.
Historic centre in sillar
Wander the Plaza de Armas, Municipal Palace, Cathedral and the Jesuit churches, all built from the city's signature white sillar stone.
Santa Catalina Monastery
Step inside one of Peru's most striking religious monuments — a walled city of cobbled lanes and painted cloisters.
Yanahuara & city viewpoints
Visit the colonial district of Yanahuara with its Andalusian-style church and lookout, the farming terraces of Carmen Alto and leafy Selva Alegre.

Up to the Colca Canyon
Across the altiplano
Leave Arequipa through Yura and the Aguada Blanca vicuña reserve, crossing the high Tocra wetlands alive with migratory birds.
Volcano viewpoint
Stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes for sweeping views of the snow-capped peaks before descending into Colca (3,600 m).
Chivay town & market
Arrive in Chivay for lunch and a rest, then explore the town and its lively local market.

Condor Cross & on to Puno
Cruz del Cóndor
An early start to the famous viewpoint, where the canyon plunges deep and Andean condors ride the morning thermals.
Maca & Yanque villages
On the way back, visit the white-stone colonial villages of Maca and Yanque and the Antahuilque lookout.
High road to Puno
Cross the wild altiplano past stone-forest formations and Crucero Alto (4,538 m), then the lakes of Lagunillas, reaching Puno (3,800 m) by lake Titicaca.

Taquile island
Sail across the deep blue lake to Taquile, an island that keeps its ancestral customs and its renowned hand-weaving traditions.
Lunch at Luquina Chico
Pause for a buffet lunch in the lakeside community of Luquina Chico, with peaceful views over the water.
The floating Uros islands
On the way back to Puno, step onto the famous Uros islands, hand-built and rebuilt from totora reeds.

Scenic route to Cusco
Pukara museum
Board the tourist bus north and stop at the Pukara ceremonial centre, with its terraced ruins and small museum.
La Raya pass
Cross La Raya, the highest point of the route and the meeting place of Quechua and Aymara worlds, framed by snow peaks.
Raqchi temple
After lunch in Sicuani, explore Raqchi, the great temple to Wiracocha — a masterwork of Inca stone and adobe.
Andahuaylillas chapel
Finish at the Andahuaylillas church, the gold-leaf 'Sistine Chapel of the Americas', before arriving in Cusco (3,400 m).

Imperial Cusco & its ruins
San Cristóbal & San Blas
Climb to the San Cristóbal viewpoint, then wander San Blas — the Siete Borreguitos lane, the Sapantiana aqueduct and the famous Twelve-Angled Stone down to the Plaza de Armas.
Cathedral & Qorikancha
In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.
Ruins above the city
Explore the nearby Inca sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay before returning to your hotel.

Písac ruins & market
Discover the hilltop ruins of Písac and browse its colourful artisan market in the valley below.
Calca, Yucay & Urubamba
Pass the charming valley villages of Calca and Yucay, with a buffet lunch in Urubamba.
Ollantaytambo fortress
Climb the great terraced fortress of Ollantaytambo, with spectacular views down the valley.
Chinchero weavers
Return via Chinchero (3,800 m), known for its market and its beautiful traditional textiles.

Inca Trail: Cusco to Wayllabamba
Km 82 trailhead
Cross the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo and on to Km 82, where the classic trek begins beside the Urubamba river.
Miskay & Patallacta
Walk past the community of Miskay and the terraced ruins of Patallacta, with lunch along the way.
Camp at Wayllabamba
Continue through lush vegetation, home of the giant hummingbird, to the first camp at Wayllabamba (3,000 m). About 12 km, 5–6 hours.

Inca Trail: over Dead Woman's Pass
Climb to Llulluchapampa
Set off at dawn up a narrow trail into the cloud forest, climbing steadily toward the high meadows.
Warmiwañusca pass
Reach the trek's highest point, the Dead Woman's Pass at 4,200 m — the toughest and most rewarding climb of the route.
Descent to Pacaymayo
Drop into a winding valley rich with birdlife to camp at Pacaymayo (3,500 m). About 13 km, 6–7 hours.

Inca Trail: ruins along the ridge
Runkurakay & its pass
Climb to the round ruins of Runkurakay and cross the second high pass of the trek.
Sayacmarca & Phuyupatamarca
Follow the stone path past the cliffside ruins of Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca, the 'town above the clouds'.
Camp at Wiñaywayna
Descend to Wiñaywayna with its hot showers and a farewell celebration for the porters. About 16 km, 7–8 hours.

The Sun Gate & Machu Picchu
Inti Punku at dawn
Set off at 04:00 to reach the Sun Gate for a first magnificent view of Machu Picchu emerging below.
Guided tour of the citadel
Walk down into the lost city for a guided tour of about two hours through its religious, civil and military quarters.
Train back to Cusco
Bus down to Aguas Calientes and take the train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy, then transfer to your Cusco hotel.
