Day 1

Welcome to Lima

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! Touch down in the capital and transfer to your hotel to rest and settle in.

Day 2

Lima city tour & Museo Larco

Miraflores & San Isidro

Begin by the Pacific, with sweeping ocean views across Lima's smart, leafy seaside districts.

Huaca Pucllana

Pause at the great pre-Inca adobe pyramid, a ceremonial temple that has survived the city growing up all around it.

Colonial old town

Explore the UNESCO historic centre — the Plaza de Armas, Government Palace and Cathedral — and the Santo Domingo convent that guards the relics of Peru's saints.

Museo Larco

Finish at the Larco Museum and its dazzling collection of pre-Columbian ceramics, including the famous erotic gallery, before returning to Larcomar or your hotel.

Day 3

Flight to Chachapoyas

Fly to Chachapoyas

Morning transfer to the airport and flight to the cloud-forest town of Chachapoyas (2,335 m).

Afternoon at leisure

Arrive, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day to relax and acclimatise.

Day 4

Gocta waterfall

Cocachimba village

Set out from the hamlet of Cocachimba, where the trail to the falls begins.

Trek to the falls

Hike around three hours along narrow forest paths rich in flora and fauna, where geography and history weave a truly magical place.

Gocta falls

Reach the foot of the towering cascade for photos and a refreshing swim, then trek back to Cocachimba and return to Chachapoyas.

Day 5

Kuélap fortress

Macro ruins

After about an hour on the road, visit the archaeological site of Macro, built into a steep hillside.

Cable car to Kuélap

Continue to Nuevo Tingo to board the 25-minute cable car up to Malcapampa, then climb 20 minutes to the main gate.

The citadel

Explore the great fortified city of Kuélap over roughly three hours, perched high above the valley, before returning to your hotel.

Day 6

Karajía sarcophagi & overnight to Chiclayo

Towards Luya–Lamud

Travel through the villages of Cocheran and Cruz Pata, gateways to the Karajía site.

Karajía sarcophagi

A 20-minute walk brings you to the cliff-side tombs of the Chachapoyas, whose towering sarcophagi are considered unique in the world.

Night bus to Chiclayo

Return to town and, in the evening, transfer to the terminal for the overnight bus to Chiclayo on the coast.

Day 7

Sipán & the Royal Tombs

Arrival in Chiclayo

Arrive on the coast, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a free morning.

Huaca Rajada

Visit the great adobe platform where the world-famous Lord of Sipán was discovered, deep in Moche country.

Royal Tombs Museum

Marvel at fabulous gold, precious stones and the rich history of the Moche civilisation at the gleaming Tumbas Reales museum, then return to Chiclayo.

Day 8

To Trujillo, Chan Chan & Huanchaco

Bus to Trujillo

Early transfer for the 3.5-hour bus south to Trujillo, the city of eternal spring.

Chan Chan

Tour the Nik-An palace of Chan Chan — ceremonial plazas, shrines, reservoirs and funerary platforms, all decorated with high-relief friezes.

Huanchaco

End at the fishing cove of Huanchaco, where reed caballitos de totora — ancient Moche craft — still ride the surf.

Day 9

Moche temples & flight to Cusco

Huacas of the Sun & Moon

Explore the Moche valley: the Huaca del Sol, raised from over 100 million adobes, and the beautiful Huaca de la Luna with its six superimposed temples.

Site museum

Visit the Huacas de Moche museum before a late checkout at your hotel.

Fly to Cusco

Afternoon transfer to the airport, flying via Lima to Cusco, where you transfer to your hotel.

Day 10

Imperial Cusco

San Cristóbal viewpoint

Head up to the San Cristóbal church for a panoramic balcony over the red-tiled roofs of Cusco.

San Blas & the old town

Wander the Siete Borreguitos lane, the Sapantiana aqueduct, artisan Plaza San Blas and the famous Twelve-Angled Stone, down to the monumental Plaza de Armas.

Cathedral & Qorikancha

In the afternoon, step inside the Cathedral and the Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun once sheathed in gold.

Ruins above the city

Explore the nearby Inca sites of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Day 11

Sacred Valley & on to Machu Picchu

Písac ruins & market

Discover the hilltop ruins of Písac and browse its colourful artisan market in the valley below.

Calca, Yucay & Urubamba

Pass the charming valley villages of Calca and Yucay, with a buffet lunch in Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo fortress

Climb the great terraced fortress of Ollantaytambo, with spectacular views down the Sacred Valley.

Evening train to Aguas Calientes

Board the evening Expedition train to Aguas Calientes; dinner included and overnight at the foot of Machu Picchu.

Day 12

Machu Picchu & back to Cusco

Guided tour of the citadel

Ride the bus up the switchbacks for a guided tour of the lost city — its religious, civil and military quarters — one of the seven wonders of the world.

Lunch in Aguas Calientes

Return to Aguas Calientes for an included lunch at your own pace.

Train to Cusco

In the afternoon, take the train back to Poroy and transfer to your Cusco hotel to rest.

Day 13

Scenic route to Puno

Andahuaylillas

Begin at the 'Sistine Chapel of the Americas', a jewel of mestizo Baroque with murals framed in gold leaf.

Raqchi

Continue to the temple of Wiracocha at Raqchi, magnificent in Inca stone and adobe.

La Raya & Sicuani

Cross the high pass of La Raya among snow peaks and native wildlife, with lunch and a rest in Sicuani.

Pukara & arrival in Puno

Visit the ceremonial terraces of Pukara before arriving in Puno (3,800 m) and transferring to your hotel.

Day 14

Lake Titicaca — Taquile & Uros

Boat to Taquile

Set out by traditional boat across the deep blue lake to Taquile island, home to ancestral living traditions.

Luquina Chico

Stop at Luquina Chico for a buffet lunch by the water.

Uros floating islands

On the way back, visit the famous reed islands of the Uros, woven entirely from totora reeds.

Departure

Transfer to Juliaca airport

Transfer to Juliaca airport, an hour north of Puno, for your flight to Lima or onward international connection.
